György Geréby Awarded Title "Titulary University Professor" at ELTE

The department is very pleased to announce that György Geréby has been awarded the title "Titulary University Professor" at ELTE. He had taught at the Institute of Philosophy at ELTE between 1992 and 2007 and was instrumental in setting up the Religious Studies program there. In the program, he continues to offer courses regularly as a visiting lecturer.

Péter Bara receives the Academic Youth Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (2020)

We are pleased to announce that Péter Bara, class of 2013 graduate of the MA program of CEU's Department of Medieval Studies, has received the Academic Youth Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences for his research in medieval Byzantine philology. Péter is a PhD candidate and has been a young research fellow at the Academy's Research Center for the Humanities Institute of History since 2018. This year, altogether twenty-two scholars working in the humanities and the natural sciences have been awarded by the Academy.

Zara Pogossian Receives Prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant (2019)

Zara Pogossian, alumna of CEU’s Department of Medieval Studies (PhD 2011) has been awarded a prestigious 2019 European Research Center (ERC) Consolidator Grant. Dr Pogossian’s project seeks to establish a new framework for studying the Caucasus, Anatolia and northern Mesopotamia (CAM) between the 9th to 14th centuries.

Emese Muntan Wins the RefoRC Paper Award 2019

Emese Muntan has won the RefoRC Paper Award  2019 for her paper Uneasy Agents of Tridentine Reforms—Catholic Missionaries in Southern Ottoman Hungary and Their Local Competitors in the First Half of the Seventeenth Century, presented at the Ninth Annual RefoRC Conference on Early Modern Christianity in May of this year.
