Year of Enrollment:
2022

Anastasiia is a cultural historian of the late antique period with a specific focus on history of emotions, history of ideas and literary/rhetoric studies. She earned her BA degree in Classical Studies at the National University of Kyiv, writing her thesis titled “The Use of Athenian Social Memory in the Demosthenes’s Speech On the Crown”. Getting interested in late antique culture and the history of emotions, she pursued her first MA degree in Medieval Studies from the National University of Kyiv, working on Boethius’s representation of emotions and self-fashioning strategies in the Consolation of Philosophy. The research partially resulted in the article on Boethius’s anatomy of emotions, published in 2021 in the Bulletin of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Following her late antique specialisation in emotions, Anastasiia continued her MA studies with a degree in Medieval Studies at CEU, focusing on the rhetorical display of love and affection in Cassiodorus’s Variae. Currently, as she has become a doctoral student at CEU, this topic has come to constitute the core of her dissertation and been expanded into a comprehensive investigation of cultural identity, gender, Otherness, emotions, and their rhetorical/literary display in Cassiodorus’s texts. Within both synchronic and diachronic comparative frameworks, she explores the culturally specific characteristics of the Italo-Roman codes of emotional display in the sixth century. Besides the main focus of her research, Anastasiia’s research interests lay in the field of ancient/medieval philosophy, ancient rhetoric, and the theory and methodology of history.
